JAMUL, CA (Oct. 21, 2024) – Jamul Casino proudly celebrated Mary Cheeks, President and General Manager of Jamul Casino, who received the Excellence in Advocacy Award at the 2024 Freedom Fund Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 19. The NAACP San Diego Branch recognized Mary along with other notable community members for their ongoing engagement with their communities and continued efforts to create a space that offers equality for all.
With an impressive 30 years of experience in casino management and finance, Mary has made a lasting impact on the gaming and hospitality industry, but more importantly, her community. She has overcome several challenges, not only as a woman in a male dominated industry, but also as a black woman. Mary has truly broken a glass ceiling not just for herself, but for all those who will follow. Her strong leadership at Jamul Casino has driven operational success and inspired those around her to strive for excellence.
“Mary is a wonderful advocate for the community, and her constant dedication to making a positive impact is nothing short of inspiring. She goes above and beyond to support those around her, always finding ways to uplift others and create opportunities,” said Jamul Indian Village Chairwoman, Erica M. Pinto. “Receiving this award is a reflection of her hard work and passion, and Mary is truly deserving of this honorable recognition.”
The Freedom Fund Dinner honored numerous individuals for their contributions including continuous advocacy, commitment to social equality and furthering community engagement. Celebrating 105 years of excellence, this year’s theme of “Stronger Together, Encouraging Dreams, & Enriching Lives” was felt throughout the evening while highlighting the recognized community members efforts to create a brighter future.
